xAI’s new Grok image and video generator has a ‘spicy’ mode

xAI's Grok Imagine is an AI image and video generator that encourages users to create NSFW content. Unlike rival tools like Google's Veo and OpenAI's Sora, Grok Imagine has a "Spicy" generation mode that actively directs it to spit out nudity and sexualized content. The tool includes text-to-image capabilities and an image-to-video tool for short clips. Users are required to either select an existing image from their gallery or generate something in Grok first for the tool to animate. The image generation is less restrictive, allowing users to generate various styles, including photorealism, anime, and illustrations. The video generation is based on the reference image uploaded by the user, and there are four modes to direct how it will be animated: Custom, Normal, Fun, and Spicy. More than 34 million images have been generated using the tool since Monday. It is available for SuperGrok and Premium Plus X subscribers via Grok's iOS app, but users are reporting that it is currently limited to making images and lacks the video generation feature.

ChatGPT will ‘better detect’ mental distress after reports of it feeding people’s delusions

OpenAI is working with experts and advisory groups to improve ChatGPT's ability to detect mental or emotional distress. The company acknowledges that its GPT-4o model has been criticized for recognizing signs of delusion or emotional dependency. To promote healthy use, OpenAI is rolling out reminders to take a break during long sessions and making ChatGPT less decisive in high-stakes situations. The company will continue tweaking the timing and method of these reminders. The chatbot's ability to feel more responsive and personal than prior technologies is also being considered. The company is expected to launch its GPT-5 AI model this week.

Google’s new AI model creates video game worlds in real time

Google DeepMind is launching a new version of its AI "world" model, Genie 3, capable of generating 3D environments for real-time interaction between users and AI agents. The model allows users to interact with the worlds for longer periods and remembers their location when they look away. Genie 2 was a prototype that could create interactive worlds based on images, but it only allowed for a minute of playable time. Genie 3 is expected to be a significant step forward, allowing users to generate worlds with a prompt that supports a few minutes of continuous interaction, up from the 10-20 seconds possible with Genie 2. Genie 3 can keep spaces in visual memory for about a minute, ensuring that objects remain in the same place when turned away. The worlds will have a 720p resolution and run at 24fps. DeepMind is also adding "promptable world events" to Genie 3, allowing users to change weather conditions or add new characters. However, Genie 3 is launching as a limited research preview, available to a small cohort of academics and creators, to better understand risks and mitigate them.
