Tesla signs $16.5B deal with Samsung to make AI chips
Tesla has signed a $16.5 billion deal with Samsung to produce its next-generation AI6 chip. The chip is part of Tesla's strategy to scale its driver assistance system, Optimus humanoid robots, and high-performance AI training in data centers. The deal is a boost for Samsung, which struggled to attract and retain major clients. Tesla may spend over $16.5 billion on Samsung chips, with actual output likely to be several times higher. Samsung agreed to allow Tesla to assist in maximizing manufacturing efficiency, and the fab is conveniently located near Tesla's house. Tesla switched to its own custom chip in 2019 to create redundancy for automated driving systems.
Microsoft Edge is now an AI browser with launch of ‘Copilot Mode’
Microsoft has launched Copilot Mode in its Edge browser, allowing users to browse the web while being assisted by AI. The AI can understand the user's research, predict their actions, and take action on their behalf. Copilot Mode is an experimental feature, currently free for Mac and PC users with access to Copilot. Users can search, chat, and navigate the web with Copilot's assistance. Copilot can handle tasks like booking appointments, creating shopping lists, and drafting content. The goal is to make it easier to perform everyday tasks, but it's unclear if consumer adoption will naturally follow. Voice input is available for those not tech-savvy or have limited mobility. Copilot can also view all open tabs with the user's permission, potentially useful for product comparisons or online research. In the future, Copilot will prompt users to pick up where they left off on a project or research by recommending next steps. Microsoft emphasizes that Copilot will only access browsing content when users choose to allow it, but the idea of allowing it to view and listen to users while searching could leave some people uneasy.
TikTok adds YouTube Music as an option to save songs playing in videos
TikTok has added YouTube Music as an option for users to save songs from video clips on the platform. The feature was first introduced in the US and the UK in November 2023, and later expanded to over 160 countries in February 2024. Users can now tap the "Add Song" button below the clip description and select YouTube Music. They can choose their preferred music streaming service or change it from the "Music" menu in Settings. Once added, the song will be added to the TikTok Songs playlist on YouTube Music.
