Microsoft and OpenAI have a new deal that could clear the way for an IPO
OpenAI, a $500 billion startup, is facing challenges in its complex partnership with Microsoft. The two companies have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the next phase of their partnership, with Microsoft investing $13 billion in OpenAI since 2019, including shares in ChatGPT revenue and its API. Microsoft now includes OpenAI as a competitor, allowing OpenAI to rely on other cloud providers for compute power and increasing its reliance on its own AI models. OpenAI's nonprofit parent company will continue to hold authority over the for-profit business, with an equity stake worth over $100 billion. However, other philanthropies and nonprofits have pushed back against OpenAI's restructuring plan, and the attorneys general of California and Delaware have opened investigations. OpenAI remains committed to learning and acting with urgency to ensure the tools are helpful and safe for everyone while advancing safety as an industry-wide priority.
Anthropic’s Claude AI can now automatically ‘remember’ past chats
Anthropic has introduced a feature allowing its Claude AI chatbot to remember previous conversations without prompting, only for Team and Enterprise users. This feature allows the chatbot to incorporate an individual's preferences, project context, and priorities into responses. The feature is particularly focused on work-related details, such as a team's processes and client needs. Users can view and edit the memory Claude has stored from their settings menu. Anthropic notes that memory is "fully optional" and can be adjusted based on user preferences. The feature is part of Anthropic's rollout of incognito chats for all users, which Claude won't save to its chat history or refer to in future chats.
