Google’s Mixboard is an AI moodboard builder
Google has introduced a new AI concepting tool called Mixboard, designed for creating moodboards to explore design ideas. This experimental tool, currently in public beta in the US, allows users to work from pre-defined board templates or utilize text prompts with Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash model. While the format resembles existing platforms such as FigJam and Adobe’s Firefly Boards, it marks Google's foray into more design-focused applications. Users can upload images or generate visuals via prompts like “show me cups, bowls, and plates in Memphis style” or “plan an autumn party in my living room.” Mixboard facilitates the exploration of home decoration ideas, event planning, or simply creating entertaining image collections akin to Pinterest boards. Google provides options for users to edit boards using natural language prompts, combine images, and quickly regenerate visuals or create similar designs with one-click functionalities.
Microsoft embraces OpenAI rival Anthropic to improve Microsoft 365 apps
Microsoft is expanding its Microsoft 365 Copilot by integrating Anthropic's AI models, Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1, in addition to OpenAI's models. This allows users to switch between models in Researcher and Copilot Studio. Access to these models will be available to Microsoft 365 Copilot licensed users who opt in. Both Claude models are hosted on Amazon Web Services, indicating a unique collaboration, while Microsoft has also worked with xAI on Grok 3 models. This shift includes the use of Claude Sonnet 4 in GitHub Copilot for Visual Studio Code, with plans to implement these models in Excel and PowerPoint, showcasing their performance advantages over OpenAI's offerings. Charles Lamanna of Microsoft highlighted ongoing commitment to innovation in AI capabilities for Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Google’s Android for PC: ‘I’ve seen it, it is incredible’
Google is progressing on plans to merge Android with ChromeOS for PCs, as indicated by Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, who expressed enthusiasm about having seen a version of the software. During Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit, Amon and Google’s Rick Osterloh discussed their collaboration, emphasizing a unified technical foundation for PCs and smartphones. Osterloh confirmed that Google's integration will involve the Gemini AI stack and the entire Android application ecosystem into the PC market, reflecting a broader convergence of mobile and desktop computing. This follows earlier announcements about combining ChromeOS and Android into a single platform.
