Google’s extreme smart home makeover

Google has a history of launching ambitious products that often falter, particularly in the smart home sector. However, Google is committed to revitalizing this area, highlighting its Gemini initiative as transformative. In a discussion on The Vergecast, Anish Kattukaran from Google's smart home team elaborates on how AI can enhance home interactions, distinguishing between hardware and platform roles, while acknowledging the challenges ahead. The episode also covers Peloton's recent fee increases and premium offerings, including a $6,695 treadmill, exploring the company's reliance on AI for personalized workouts. Additionally, a listener question about the practicality of using multiple smartwatches is addressed, weighing the advantages and disadvantages of such a setup.

Sam Altman says there are no current plans for ads within ChatGPT Pulse — but he’s not ruling it out

In a recent Q&A at OpenAI’s DevDay, CEO Sam Altman highlighted ChatGPT Pulse as his favored new feature, which personalizes user experience by learning from transcripts and connected applications. This feature will provide users with a daily "pulse" on tailored topics, such as workouts or language lessons. Although the company is considering advertising options for Pulse, Altman stated there are currently no concrete plans, expressing a cautious approach to ads while acknowledging his interest in Instagram ads. Initially intended for all users, Pulse is currently available only to Pro users due to its resource demands.

ChatGPT apps are live: Here are the first ones you can try

OpenAI has launched new integrations that allow users to manage third-party applications within ChatGPT. Users can create Spotify playlists, search Zillow for real estate, and interact with services in a format similar to mini-apps on platforms like Telegram and Discord. Key integrations include:

- Spotify: Connect to manage playlists and receive music recommendations.
- Canva: Create and edit designs directly in ChatGPT.
- Figma: Edit diagrams and visualize data commands.
- Zillow: Search for real estate listings based on preferences.
- Expedia: Request hotel and flight information for trip planning.
- Coursera: Access educational content and recommendations.

OpenAI plans to expand these functionalities further.
