Google is a ‘bad actor’ says People CEO, accusing the company of stealing content
People, Inc. CEO Neil Vogel has criticized Google for crawling websites to support its AI products, arguing that the company is not playing fair. He believes that Google's crawler usage is not fair, as it also indexes websites for the search engine. Vogel believes publishers need more leverage in the AI era and believes blocking AI crawlers is necessary to force them into content deals. People Inc. has been using web infrastructure company Cloudflare's solution to block unpaid AI crawlers, but this would prevent Google's crawler from indexed in Google Search, reducing the 20%-ish traffic that Google still delivers. Ankler Media CEO Jane Min also blocks AI crawlers. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince believes that AI companies will continue to change, possibly prompted by new regulations.
Tucker Carlson asks Sam Altman if an OpenAI employee was murdered ‘on your orders’
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson discussed a conspiracy theory that former OpenAI researcher Suchir Balaji was "definitely murdered." Balaji's death in November 2024 was ruled a suicide by the San Francisco police, following his statements in a New York Times article criticizing OpenAI's tech for alleged copyright violations. Carlson explained his reasons for believing the theory, citing Balaji's mother's claim of murder on Altman's orders. Altman brought up police reports and their findings after an investigation, feeling strange and sad debating the matter. Carlson denies doing so.
Why the Oracle-OpenAI deal caught Wall Street by surprise
OpenAI has signed a $300 billion five-year agreement with Oracle, marking a significant milestone in the company's AI infrastructure. The deal reflects Oracle's continued role in the industry, despite its legacy status. OpenAI's collaboration with multiple infrastructure providers diversifies its infrastructure and gives it a scaling advantage compared to competitors. Oracle has previously worked with hyperscalers and provides infrastructure for TikTok's U.S. business. OpenAI has committed to spending around $60 billion a year for compute from Oracle and $10 billion to develop custom AI chips with Broadcom. The company plans to source the energy needed for this level of compute, with solar, batteries, and nuclear being better positioned for power delivery.
