Elon Musk’s xAI is suing OpenAI and Apple

Elon Musk is suing Apple and OpenAI for stifling competition in the AI industry by building ChatGPT into iPhones. Musk-owned X Corp and xAI accuse Apple's Apple Store of prioritizing rival chatbots and "super" apps, including Grok and X. They claim that iPhone users have no reason to download third-party AI apps because Apple forces users to use ChatGPT as their default chatbot app when enabling Apple Intelligence. Musk threatened Apple with legal action earlier this month for rigging App Store rankings in favor of OpenAI. The lawsuit also accuses Apple's partnership with OpenAI of creating a "moat" protecting OpenAI due to Apple's monopoly in smartphones.

Silicon Valley is pouring millions into pro-AI PACs to sway midterms

Andreessen Horowitz and OpenAI President Greg Brockman have invested over $100 million in a network of political-action committees (PACs) called "Leading the Future" to oppose strict AI regulations in the upcoming midterm elections. The pro-AI super-PAC network aims to use campaign donations and digital ads to advocate for favorable AI regulation and oppose candidates that they believe will stifle the industry. Both Horowitz and OpenAI were part of a push to implement a 10-year moratorium on states' rights to create their own AI regulations. The group aims to mirror its approach on pro-crypto super-PAC network Fairshake, which helped secure Donald Trump's victory, and align with the policies of White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks.

The new Fi Mini pet tracker has GPS, and it’s barely bigger than an AirTag

Fi, a pet tech company, has launched a clip-on GPS tracker called the Fi Mini, which weighs just 0.56 ounces and offers real-time escape alerts and live tracking from the accompanying app. The Fi Mini is available as a subscription for $129 per year and can be attached to any collar or harness. It has an IP68 rating and uses Verizon's LTE-M cellular network to share location and track walking history. The Fi Mini also offers activity and sleep tracking capabilities, AI-powered behavior detection, and an Apple Watch integration. The Fi Mini will begin shipping on September 1st.
