Google is introducing "Gems" - customizable versions of its Gemini AI assistant for specific tasks, available in Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive, and Gmail. Users can curate chatbots, upload files, and use pre-made Gems for tasks like text editing, code writing, and sales pitch ideas. Racist videos made with AI are going viral on TikTok

Nonprofit media watchdog Media Matters has found racist videos created using Google's AI video generation tool Veo 3, which have garnered millions of views on TikTok. The videos, which include racist tropes, often target Black people. The videos were found to be generated with the "Veo" watermark in the corner of the clips, and some users also listed hashtags, captions, or usernames related to Veo 3 or AI. TikTok has removed accounts identified in the report, and some of the videos were also found on YouTube and Instagram.

Google makes it easier to let friends and kids control your smart home

Google Home has introduced a new feature allowing users to assign "Admin" and "Member" roles to their smart home. Admins have full control over all devices, services, and users, while Members can only use basic device controls. Admins can grant Members additional privileges, such as "Settings" access and "Activity" access, to monitor device history. Additionally, the process of adding a child under 13 to the Home app is simplified, allowing users to invite them through the Google Home app.
